When Star Wars Battlefront came out, many people expected some Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens DLC will be released after the film came out. However, the game is stubbornly only concentrating on original trilogy content. EA has now given a reason why this is the case.

EA released its financial earnings report for Q3 2016. There is an interesting part in the report that kind of explains why Star Wars Battlefront is strictly only sticking to original trilogy DLC. The reasoning makes sense, but isn’t satisfactory.

It said: “On Star Wars, the one thing that we are adhering to, and I think this is part of our arrangement with Lucas and Disney, is you can’t make a game in Star Wars that violates the canon of Star Wars. Meaning, you can take something from the future and bring it back into the past unless it’s a reference.

It sounds like EA is blaming Lucasfilm and Disney as they cannot break the Star Wars canon by adding new characters into an old setting. This is why we won’t see playable Rey or Kylo Ren fighting the likes of Darth Vader and Boba Fett.
