It’s strange just how few games try to recapture the essence of Breath of the Wild. That game received high critical acclaim to the point where I don’t think I know a Switch owner who hasn’t tried it. Three years later, and we still have yet to see a game that gives its own take on that idea. That is, until today. After much anticipation, and months of hype, Windbound is now available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia for $39.99. You can find the official launch trailer, showing the game in all its glory, below.

Windbound follows the story of Kara, a member of a native tribe crossing the ocean for new lands. During that ride, a mysterious storm hits and she’s separated from her people, losing her boat and washing ashore on the Forbidden Islands. With her survival knowledge in hand, and a drive to see her people again, Kara must survive on the islands and build a new boat to find her way home. The Forbidden Islands are filled with a lot more secrets than expected though, leading her on a journey she could’ve never expected.

This is one indie game I’ve been looking incredibly forward to. The beauty in the initial trailer immediately caught my attention, with its gameplay reeling me in. I’ve been keeping a close eye on the title, and I couldn’t be more excited to experience Kara’s story. With it on so many platforms, many others like me will have the chance to experience something truly special. I have a lot of hope, and I hope you do too.

You can purchase Windbound from your respective platform’s store. Now, I’d love to hear about what you think of the game. Are you excited to brave the storm and discover the secrets of the islands?
