For a long time, it looked like there could have been a Django and Zorro crossover movie. While the idea is nearly a decade old, it is now dead, as writer Jerrod Carmichael (Laugh Factory) confirmed in an interview with GQ that the film is not happening.
In the interview, he did not detail specific reasons why the plan to have Django and Zorro meet did not happen. He talked about his time with Quentin Tarantino as they had quality time reading scenes that never made it in his films and writing out the crossover. It turns out it was written, and he had faith that it would be a hit.
Concept Behind the Django and Zorro Crossover
The crossover with Django and Zorro was announced in 2019, but it was born in a comic. While Jamie Foxx would reprise his role from Django Unchained, the same would go for Zorro actor Antonio Banderas, who played the character in 1998’s The Mask of Zorro and 2005’s Legend of Zorro. Carmichael was brought on in 2019 when it became known that Tarantino planned on making the film.
It would follow Foxx’s character years after the events of the 2012 film. He would still be a bounty hunter but would find time to settle down with his wife, Broomhilda, played by Kerry Washington (Scandal). On his journey, he would meet Don Diego de la Vega, also known as Zorro. The two would team up to free indigenous people from slavery.
