What do you think about when you play WWE Games? Do you relish the opportunity to play as some of your favorite WWE Superstars? Do you love the idea of creating your own character and challenging some of the biggest names in wrestling? What about creating some dream matches that many say are impossible in the WWE? For many, these are three of the biggest reasons why people buy WWE games. Within the last two years, WWE and Yukes have come under fire for the glitches in WWE 2K 19 and WWE 2k20 and staffing issues. With the virus raging and not slowing down, a rumor broke that WWE 2K21 has been canceled.
Although WWE 2K20 received mass criticism, many believed that WWE 2K21 would still be released in the late Fall of 2020. With the pandemic still underway, the rumor that WWE 2k21 would be canceled makes sense. Roughly around Wrestlemania time, WWE and their game partners announce the next upcoming WWE game; however, with Wrestlemania 36 now passed, no news has been released by either company.
The cancelation of WWE 2K21 makes sense since the process of creating each character can be rather tedious. In order to create a representation of each WWE superstar, each wrestler undergoes hours of body scanning and voice recording for the game. This process also takes multiple personal to accomplish the task quickly. With all of the professional wrestling currently struggling, it makes sense that wrestlers would not want to risk their livelihood for a game. Also, after the mass the criticism of last year’s game, rumors emerged that budget cuts would occur for the following year.
What’s Next?
This response leaves only speculation as to the fate of WWE games. One thing we know for certain is that a bunch of former WWE talent will not be in upcoming WWE Games after their release on April 15th, 2020.
