The closing panels of Marauders #5 see the return of X-Men 2099’s Cerebra. The issue, from Steve Orlando and Andrea Broccardo, ends with Kate Pryde returning to life inside the resurrection chamber of Krakoa. As she comes to, she gets a message from Bishop letting her know someone wants to see her. That someone turns out to be Cerebra, a founding member of X-Men 2099 and someone who looks up to Kate Pryde.
Who Is This Mutant?
According to CBR, Cerebra was created by John Francis Moore and Ron Lim. The mutant-sensing telepath first appeared in X-Men 2099 #1 back in 1993. She led the futuristic team of mutants for a while. After that, she formed a colony in the Savage Lands, where humans and mutants coexisted. The last time Cerebra was seen, she lost her powers and the use of her legs.
Now, a younger version of the mutant is back on Krakoa. With both her powers and legs intact, she seems to have some business with Kate Pryde. As Bishop explains, she died with Kate’s name on her lips and, since being resurrected, has shown nothing but admiration for her fellow mutant.
What Does X-Men 2099’s Cerebra Want From Today’s Marauders?
Unfortunately, the next issue of The Marauders is a Judgment Day tie-in and will likely not deal with Cerebra’s appearance. However, a synopsis for the following issue teases a new arc featuring the telepath. It states that a team has rescued the “last survivor of Threshold from certain death.” They did so with the aid of one of 2099’s mutant heroes. At the same time, Kate Pryde promises to save any mutant, no matter where or when, this may be too much. Can she and the team save an entire civilization in the past without harming the future?
The appearance of X-Men 2099’s Cerebra is just the beginning of this new adventure for Kate Pryde and her Marauders. Issue five is on sale now!
