The X-Men have experienced a resurgence as of late. Jonathan Hickman’s reboot of Marvel’s uncanny heroes in House of X/Powers of X has brought the X-Men back in a big way. With new resources and new a new outlook, it appears that mutants are not going anywhere for a long time. However, not everybody is on board with the X-Men’s new status quo. This is the focus for the upcoming four-issue miniseries, X-Men/Fantastic Four.

X-Men Spoilers Ahead

Much of the mutant population now lives on the living island Krakoa. There, Charles Xavier and Magneto work to build a unified government for all mutant-kind. No longer will their kind be discriminated against. Instead, they have chosen to remove themselves from the rest of mankind to focus on their own survival and happiness. However, that new mentality will lead the X-Men into conflict with Marvel’s First Family.

While the Fantastic Four are not mutants themselves, Franklin Richards (Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman’s son) is an Omega-level mutant and the focus of the series. Born with reality-warping powers and psionics, Franklin has often been the target of many supervillains looking to use his abilities to further their own goals. Being both a mutant and the son of two of Earth’s greatest heroes puts Franklin between both teams. With the X-Men seemingly more adversarial lately, the conflict could very well explode.
