It looks like Xbox isn’t done acquiring game studios.
Microsoft’s huge acquisition announcement at E3 2018, in which they revealed that studios like Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, Obsidian Entertainment and more would become part of Xbox’s first-party lineup. This proved that the company meant business for their future in the gaming industry. With Xbox’s number one issue being their lack of great first-party titles, this was a great sign for what’s to come.
But, one analyst believes that the slew of studio acquisitions isn’t over just yet. In an interview with GamingBolt, IDC analyst Lewis Ward claimed that Microsoft Studios is still looking to add big contenders to their repertoire well into 2019. Ward stated that Microsoft “doesn’t still have as large a game developer base as either Sony or Nintendo even after these acquisitions.”.
In another part of the interview, Lewis predicted that Xbox will implement VR into their next console generation, stating:
It looks like Microsoft is really taking their next generation titles seriously and ramping up to be a much heavier contender in the “console wars”.
