Yaya DaCosta, known for her performance on Chicago Med, has been officially announced as the latest addition to The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix in a recurring role. DaCosta joins series regulars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Neve Campbell, and Becki Newton, among others.

Based on the Michael Connelly novel series of the same name, The Lincoln Lawyer follows Micky Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), an L.A.-based lawyer working and hustling to regain the status he lost to a battle with addiction. Haller is supported by a tight-knit community of friends and loved ones including his two ex-wives, Maggie (Neve Campbell) and Lorna (Becki Newton), his driver and former client Izzy (Jazz Raycole), and Cisco (Angus Sampson), Lorna’s fiancé and Haller’s go-to investigator.

Season one of Netflix’s Lincoln Lawyer saw Mickey defending Trevor Elliott (Christopher Gorham), a multimillionaire game developer accused of murder, against prosecutor Jeff Golantz (Michael Graziadei). Meanwhile, Maggie, a prosecuting attorney, digs into the case of Angela Soto, whose business is suspected of using slave labor; the cases and their attorneys find themselves tangled in a complex web of lies and secrets that all comes to a head with a cliffhanger in the season 1 finale.

Yaya DaCosta in Season 2 of ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’

Season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer will reportedly be based on the fourth book in Connelly’s series, titled The Fifth Witness, a feature Lana Parrilla as Lisa Trammell, a chef struggling to keep her business afloat under pressure from a real estate developer wanting to buy her land. Yaya DaCosta joins the season as Andrea Freemann, who Deadline describes as “a cut-throat prosecutor and Mickey Haller’s undefeated courtroom rival”. Interestingly, Andrea is also a friend of Maggie’s, and given how things left off between Mickey and his ex-wife in season 1, it should be interesting to see how these new connections pan out.

Yaya DaCosta is best known for her role as April Sexton in NBC’s Chicago Med. As an ER nurse in the fictional Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, DaCosta starred in a primary series role from the show’s inception in 2015 through its sixth season, which concluded in 2021; from then on, April stepped away to attend a nurse practitioner’s program, and recently returned for a recurring role in Chicago Med season 8.

Season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer, starring Yaya DaCosta, will be executive produced by Michael Connelly, Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez, David E. Kelley, Ross Fineman, Barry Jossen, and Tana Jamieson. A+E Studios produces the series for Netflix.
